Karen's Position on Senate Bill 1

As a healthcare professional for 40 years, I have seen exactly what happens when people are left without the support they need. Do I agree with every single line in a massive bill like Senate Bill 1? No. But would I vote for it? In a heartbeat.
This wasn’t a radical partisan issue. In fact, 27 House Republicans and 5 Senate Republicans recognized how much this matters and voted FOR it. But when East Haven needed a voice in Hartford to stand up for our families, our current representative, Joe Zullo, was one of the few who said 'no.'
That matters because East Haven is struggling with affordability, and this bill delivers real relief:
For our kids: It ensures children start their day with a nutritious meal and creates a historic Universal Preschool Trust to help parents with the soaring costs of childcare.
For our seniors and caregivers: It provides direct support for families caring for aging or disabled loved ones.
For our schools: It addresses the 'sounding alarm' on rising costs for health insurance and operations while providing $10 million in grants for critical special education programming.
For our small businesses: It rewards employers who offer better benefits, helping us invest in our local economy, not just more warehouses.
For our future: It keeps paying down state debt while making the strategic investments we need for long-term financial health.
East Haven deserves a representative who works with their colleagues to get things done—not one who just sticks to talking points. I’m running to be that voice because your family's success shouldn't be a partisan issue.
